Arabella

Saturday 11th 14.00 -14.45

Arabella are four 21-year-olds with a like-minded passion for pop music. Not however the often plastic, soulless music that springs to most people’s minds when the genre is mentioned, rather pop music formed from expertly crafted song writing, solid musicianship and real emotion. The kind of pop music that flourished in the hands of artists such as The Beatles, Ray Charles and Michael Jackson. Pop music that takes the best elements of Blues, Funk, Soul and Jazz, combining them with infectious melody and eloquent words to form something with universal appeal. On first appearance people often expect the band to produce a brand of untidy and unthoughtful indie/rock music that would befit a band of their young age and are often surprised at the maturity of their sound, with a deep appreciation for music that’s hey-day was before they were born. Arabella pride themselves on a tight, driven soulful sound that brings these influences up to date. Or as they were once described, “like James Brown’s band, dressed in skinny jeans”. Arabella have a distinctly American tinge to their sound, with artists like John Mayer and Jason Mraz big influences. However unlike these famous singer-songwriters Arabella are most definitely a collective. All four members are actively involved in writing songs and generating ideas. This collective spirit was both tested and strengthened during the Summer of 2010 where they brought their music to people across the UK during their Nationwide Busking Tour. Playing acoustically in city centres up and down the country, selling thousands of CDs and spending nights sleeping cramped in the back of a van. The tour has raised the profile of the band significantly and they aim to return to the road again in late 2010 to tour alongside the release of the upcoming single ‘Feeling Won’t Change’ set for release in October.
